Lag questions we hear on Monument
If the answer is “that is a different shop,” we will say so. The mill is allergic to pretending offset is every problem in a golf bag.
Is iron offset the same as twisting a driver sleeve?
No. A sleeve jack changes loft and face angle on an adapter. Offset here is the horizontal lag from hosel centerline to the leading edge of the face. We do not touch adapters. If that is what you need, keep the wrench in the car and find a sleeve bay.
Can you mill extra offset into a player blade?
We measure. We do not pour new heads. If a blade’s lag is 0.8 mm and you want GI wait, the honest move is a different cavity, not a file. Maren will not grind a hosel to fake a cavity’s 6 mm.
Why does my GI 5-iron look closed at address on NCR?
Strong offset parks the leading edge behind the neck, so the face appears shut even when the scorelines are square to the target. That visual is a feature for golfers who leave the face open, and a trap for golfers who already shut it. The caliper tells which camp you are in; the mirror over the mat does not.
Do you re-bore hosels or swap ferrules?
No. Bore-through work and ferrule swell live in adapter shops. Our V-block would be a sloppy place to epoxy a neck. We keep the plate clean for lag.
How damp is too damp for a mill slot?
We wet the mat on purpose from May through September. We do not run outdoor river tests in a thunderstorm, and we do not pretend January indoor is June. If you want the river story, book after the Great Miami has actually greened.
Why will you not mill a putter?
Putter “offset” is a plumbing-neck or a double-bend conversation about arc and toe-hang. That is not leading-edge lag behind an iron hosel. Read Putter: none and spend the money on a roll shop.
Can more offset hide a face I already shut?
It can hide it until the ball starts left of every Oakwood flag. Extra lag gives wait time to people who are late to square. If you are early, extra lag makes you earlier. We would rather tell you that than sell a stronger cavity.
My set is a GI 4, a player 7, and two OEM wedges. Can you still map it?
That kink is half our week. Book the progressive map. Theo will plot the lag curve and circle the jump. Mixed bags are not a moral failure in Dayton; they are a drawing with a corner.
Do you take walk-ins off Monument?
Rarely. Saturday before 1:00 sometimes, if a slot died. Weekdays want a window. Use the form or (937) 555-0188.
