Blades hug the neck. The river notices.
A true player iron carries little to no offset. The leading edge almost shares the hosel datum. That honesty is why Oakwood golfers love the look and why June Bermuda loves to hold the edge.
On the plate we expect 0 to 2 mm of lag on a blade 7. Anything north of 3 mm and someone has snuck GI geometry under a thin topline. Theo will circle that on the traveler because golfers who paid for a blade deserve to know if the foundry quietly added wait.
Near-zero offset means the face does not get extra milliseconds to square. If you already shut the face, a blade will not drag you further left the way a 7 mm cavity can. If you leave it open, the river first-cut will grab that exposed leading edge and the shot dies at your feet. Offset Bay does not “fix” that with a grind. We tell you the number and whether a mild cavity would skate the moisture without looking like a shovel.
Address appearance is the other fight. With the edge next to the neck, the face looks square when it is square. Golfers coming off strong-offset GI sets often aim blades right because their eyes still expect the face to sit behind the hosel. Maren makes them aim at the leading edge, not the neck, then we check the mat.
