Why more offset will not square a face you already shut

Sales language treats offset like a wrench that squares the face. Mechanically it is extra distance from neck to edge, which delays when the face feels “here” and paints a picture at address that looks closed. If your miss is a weak open face, that delay can help you meet the ball less open. If your miss is a ball that already starts left of the pin at NCR, that delay meets a face that was already shut. The start-line moves left. Then a well-meaning voice says you need even more help. The mill hears that sentence and reaches for the rust stamp that means no.
